My name is Patrick Herb and I teach band at Wood River Middle and High School. I graduated from Pearl City High School in Hawaii where there was a rich tradition of bands in the schools. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Boise State where I made many friends and met my wife Tiffany. I continued my education at Manhattan School of Music in New York City and graduated with a Master in Music in orchestral performance. While studying at Manhattan, I began my career as a professional musician regularly performing with groups such as the New York Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Metropolitan Opera and various Broadway shows. I recorded soundtracks for major theatrical productions, video games, and Grammy Award winning performances with the Metropolitan Opera. I also recorded albums with Yo-Yo Ma, The Knights, Albany Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera and New York Philharmonic. I was the bass trombonist for the Hartford Symphony and Albany Symphony for ten years. I have taught masterclasses at the University of Washington, Boise State, The Hartt School, and Juilliard. In my spare time I love to make music, bike, camp, and sail with my wife, Tiffany, and my two daughters Elisabeth, and Isabella.

Me llamo Patrick Herb e imparto clases de banda en la Escuela Secundaria y Preparatoria Wood River. Me gradué de la Escuela Preparatoria Pearl City en Hawái, donde existía una rica tradición de bandas escolares. Obtuve mi Licenciatura en Artes en la Universidad Estatal de Boise (Boise State), donde hice muchos amigos y conocí a mi esposa, Tiffany. Continué mi formación académica en la Escuela de Música de Manhattan (Manhattan School of Music), en la ciudad de Nueva York, y me gradué con una Maestría en Música con especialización en interpretación orquestal. I have taught Drama at the WRMS for approximately 7 years and 8th grade science for 1 year. Prior to that, I was a substitute teacher, and then served as the Computer Lab Para and Building Technology Representative for 8 years at Bellevue Elementary School. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Gonzaga University, I completed my Master's Degree in Literacy at Boise State University, and am currently in the doctoral program in curriculum and instruction, working on my Ed.D. degree.

When not with the family farm menagerie, or leading 4-H, I can be found on and offstage with local theatre companies and in film.

He impartido clases de teatro en la WRMS durante aproximadamente 7 años y de ciencias de octavo grado durante 1 año. Antes de eso, fui maestro sustituto y, posteriormente, me desempeñé durante 8 años como asistente del laboratorio de computación y representante de tecnología del plantel en la Escuela Primaria Bellevue. Tras obtener mi Licenciatura en Ciencias (Biología) en la Universidad de Gonzaga, completé una Maestría en Alfabetización en la Universidad Estatal de Boise y, actualmente, formo parte de un programa de doctorado en currículo e instrucción, trabajando para obtener mi título de Doctor en Educación (Ed.D.).

Cuando no estoy ocupado con la variada fauna de nuestra granja familiar o dirigiendo actividades de 4-H, se me puede encontrar tanto sobre el escenario como tras bastidores, colaborando con compañías de teatro locales y participando en producciones cinematográficas.

Hello visitor! My name is Ellen Sanders and I am the Orchestra Teacher at Wood River Middle School. My main string instrument is the cello which I began playing in 4th grade. After graduating from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music I was invited to play in the Elkhorn Music Festival in 1992. It was so amazing to visit and perform in the beautiful Wood River Valley. At that time I lived in San Francisco but looked forward to my returns to play music in Idaho in the summertime. It only took me 25 years to find a way to stay in the valley and in 2016 I taught music classes at Wood River High School. My first year at Wood River Middle School started in 2019 and was turned upside down with everyone else when school went to online learning in the Spring of 2020. Music is an essential art form that is passed from generation to generation. My favorite composer is Ludwig van Beethoven. One of my music teachers has traced her teacher all the way back to Beethoven, so I am a part of the learning tradition that continues to thrive today. My goals as a teacher include empowering students to find their musical voice through learning music theory and the aspects of playing an instrument. Music is to be shared, supported, and enjoyed. In these times of distance and separation, music is still a craft to be learned by the individual who will share their achievements by playing for themselves, their family, and audiences at large.  The opportunity to take the journey of a musician will happen in our classes.

¡Hola, visitante! Mi nombre es Ellen Sanders y soy la profesora de orquesta en la Wood River Middle School. Mi instrumento de cuerda principal es el violonchelo, el cual comencé a tocar en cuarto grado. Tras graduarme del Conservatorio de Música de San Francisco, fui invitada a tocar en el Festival de Música de Elkhorn en 1992. Fue una experiencia maravillosa visitar y actuar en el hermoso Valle de Wood River. En aquel entonces vivía en San Francisco, pero esperaba con ansias mis regresos a Idaho durante el verano para hacer música. Solo me tomó 25 años encontrar la manera de quedarme en el valle y, en 2016, impartí clases de música en la Wood River High School. Mi primer año en la Wood River Middle School comenzó en 2019 y, al igual que para todos los demás, se vio completamente trastocado cuando la escuela pasó a la modalidad de aprendizaje en línea en la primavera de 2020. La música es una forma de arte esencial que se transmite de generación en generación. Mi compositor favorito es Ludwig van Beethoven. Una de mis profesoras de música ha rastreado su linaje pedagógico hasta llegar al propio Beethoven; por lo tanto, formo parte de una tradición de aprendizaje que sigue floreciendo hoy en día. La oportunidad de emprender el viaje de un músico se hará realidad en nuestras clases.

The first thing you need to know about me is that I am a mother above all other things. So, when your child walks into my classroom, I love them as if they were my own. This is a huge responsibility I do not take lightly. Not only is it my duty and privilege to teach a new set of skills from baking to basket weaving as well as sewing and crocheting, it is also my honor to instill a desire and the motivation to be a social and emotional learner. As well as being a mother and a teacher I am also an artist, a tennis player, a world traveler, a lover and pursuer of nutrition and good health, and last but not least, a wife to an incredibly kind and amazing husband. In the end I want you to know that I teach and model what I feel is one of the most important things in this precious life, and that is, "The Golden Rule", which of course it treating others the way you yourself would want to be treated. With sincerity and excitement I thank you for trusting me with life's most important gift, our children. 

Lo primero que deben saber sobre mí es que, por encima de todo, soy madre. Por eso, cuando su hijo entra en mi aula, lo quiero como si fuera el mío propio. Esta es una enorme responsabilidad que no me tomo a la ligera. No solo es mi deber y mi privilegio enseñar un nuevo conjunto de habilidades —que abarcan desde la repostería hasta la cestería, pasando por la costura y el ganchillo—, sino que también es un honor para mí infundir el deseo y la motivación para crecer en el ámbito social y emocional. Además de ser madre y maestra, soy artista, tenista, viajera empedernida, amante y defensora de la buena nutrición y la salud, y —por último, pero no menos importante— esposa de un marido increíblemente amable y extraordinario. En definitiva, quiero que sepan que enseño y pongo en práctica lo que considero una de las cosas más importantes de esta preciosa vida: «La Regla de Oro», que consiste, por supuesto, en tratar a los demás tal como uno mismo desearía ser tratado. Con sinceridad y entusiasmo, les doy las gracias por confiarme el regalo más importante de la vida: nuestros hijos.
