We tell kids to pay attention but we don't tell them how - Mindfulness is a gentle way of teaching kids how to pay attention.

The practice of Mindfulness is secular.  It is not only breathing and promoting self-awareness, but it involves exercises relating to attention, emotion, caring and reflection.

Benefits include:

Learning Readiness

  • Skills to control and sustain attention
  • Increase in executive function

Emotional Regulation

  • Stress reduction
  • Self-regulate difficult emotions

Self-Understanding and Inner Wisdom

  • Cultivate inner confidence and personal choice
  • Increase resilience

Compassion and Empathy

  • Toward self and others
  • Anti-bullying

Mindfulness is introduced in the 6th grade Humanities classes.
