I began my teaching career in 1997, teaching 6th-grade English and social studies in Oakland, California. While I loved being close to my hometown of Pacifica, I found myself drawn to the mountains and the promise of a slower pace of life. In 2000, that dream became a reality when I moved to the Wood River Valley and began teaching 7th-grade English at Wood River Middle School. I later transitioned to teaching 8th-grade English, where I continue to share my passion for language, storytelling, and creative expression. I believe the English classroom should be a place where creativity and curiosity thrive. By incorporating music, art, and personal expression into reading and writing, I strive to help students discover both the power of language and their own unique voices. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my two boys on the river, dancing at concerts, and finding every possible excuse to be outdoors and surrounded by nature.

Comencé mi carrera docente en 1997, impartiendo clases de inglés y estudios sociales de sexto grado en Oakland, California. Aunque me encantaba estar cerca de mi ciudad natal, Pacifica, me sentía atraído por las montañas y la promesa de un ritmo de vida más pausado. En el año 2000, ese sueño se hizo realidad cuando me mudé al Valle de Wood River y comencé a enseñar inglés de séptimo grado en la Wood River Middle School. Más tarde pasé a enseñar inglés de octavo grado, etapa en la que continúo compartiendo mi pasión por el lenguaje, la narración y la expresión creativa. I am excited to start a new adventure teaching at WRMS this year, teaching 7th and 8th-grade English. I have spent the last five years teaching high school English in Carey, and before that, I taught high school English at Canyon Ridge High School in Twin Falls. I graduated from the University of Idaho in 2010 with a degree in communications. After working for two years as a paraprofessional, I decided that teaching was my calling and completed my Master's degree in Education in 2015.

After relocating to the Wood River Valley in 2023, my family has enjoyed hiking, camping, rafting, and taking in all of the local entertainment. I feel so blessed to be able to call the Wood River Valley my home, and I am looking forward to new adventures teaching middle school.

Me entusiasma comenzar una nueva aventura docente en WRMS este año, impartiendo clases de inglés a alumnos de 7.º y 8.º grado. He dedicado los últimos cinco años a enseñar inglés en la escuela secundaria en Carey y, antes de eso, enseñé inglés en la Canyon Ridge High School en Twin Falls. Me gradué de la Universidad de Idaho en 2010 con una licenciatura en Comunicaciones. Kari and her family recently moved to the Wood River Valley from Seattle, WA. Kari has been an elementary and special education teacher for 15 years. She completed her undergraduate work at The Evergreen State College and received her Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington. Through teaching, Kari loves to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, but most of all, to help her students feel successful as life-learners. Kari and her husband have spent a lot of time in the Wood River Valley and are excited to now call it home. She loves to spend time being active in the outdoors with her friends, family, and yellow lab.

Kari y su familia se mudaron recientemente al Wood River Valley desde Seattle, Washington. Kari ha sido maestra de educación primaria y especial durante 15 años. Realizó sus estudios de pregrado en The Evergreen State College y obtuvo su maestría en docencia en la Universidad de Washington. My job as an English teacher is to help your child develop a better vocabulary and skill set for expressing themselves in the form that works best for them. Middles are experiencing such a dynamic array of emotions and challenges at this juncture of their lives. Being able to communicate like a grown-up is a confidence builder that sets them up to be avid participants in life. I've been in the valley for 23 years now, raised my own children, twin girls who are 21 and juniors at BSU, and have worked with all ages across the district, mostly in special education. Some of your kids had me at Head Start, some of yours know me from equine-assisted therapy, or the Y. I enjoy all ages, but 6th graders are the most fun because they bring the most challenges. It's a proven fact that middle-schoolers still need their parents, but are here with us most of their days, striving for independence. I'm here to help them navigate their new world. I am honored to be working among such a dedicated team of educators, who love and nurture your kids to their best selves.

Mi labor como profesor de inglés consiste en ayudar a su hijo a desarrollar un vocabulario más amplio y un conjunto de habilidades que le permitan expresarse de la manera que mejor se adapte a él. Los estudiantes de secundaria experimentan una gama sumamente dinámica de emociones y desafíos en esta etapa de sus vidas. Ser capaces de comunicarse con la madurez de un adulto les infunde confianza, preparándolos para convertirse en participantes activos y entusiastas de la vida. Llevo ya 23 años residiendo en el valle; aquí crié a mis propias hijas —gemelas de 21 años que cursan el tercer año en la BSU— y he trabajado con alumnos de todas las edades a lo largo del distrito, principalmente en el ámbito de la educación especial. Algunos de sus hijos me tuvieron como maestro en el programa Head Start; otros me conocen por mi labor en la terapia asistida con caballos o en la YMCA. Disfruto trabajando con todas las edades, pero los alumnos de sexto grado son los más divertidos, precisamente porque son los que plantean mayores desafíos. Es un hecho comprobado que los estudiantes de secundaria siguen necesitando a sus padres, aunque pasen la mayor parte de sus días con nosotros, en plena búsqueda de su independencia. Estoy aquí para ayudarles a navegar por este nuevo mundo que se abre ante ellos. Es un honor para mí formar parte de un equipo de educadores tan entregado, que brinda amor y apoyo a sus hijos para ayudarles a alcanzar su máximo potencial.

I have been teaching 7th grade English Language Arts at Wood River Middle School since 1999 after earning my Master's in Education and Curriculum from Boise State University. I LOVE reading and writing, and I feel lucky to share these interests with others. When I am not teaching, I am usually reading, practicing yoga or playing outdoors. Hiking, biking, camping, and skiing are some of my favorite activities. Traveling is another huge passion, and I have been fortunate to have traveled to many places around the world.

He estado enseñando Artes del Lenguaje en 7.º grado en la Wood River Middle School desde 1999, tras obtener mi Maestría en Educación y Currículo en la Boise State University. ¡Me ENCANTA leer y escribir!, y me siento afortunado de compartir estos intereses con los demás.
